When we talk about Vegas, many people would think it is not a family friendly vacation spot, but here are 30 things to do in Las Vegas with kids. You may be surprised to learn that aside from the casinos and the drinking culture of this city, there are also many family friendly activities on offer. And they may just be the perfect place for an exciting adventure with kids of all ages.

While younger kids may be scared of the heights of the Stratosphere and think you crazy for going on these adrenaline spiking rides, older kids with a taste for adventure may well love these terrifying rides! Spin, dangle, whoosh and soar high above the ground to your heart’s content, or simply climb the tower to enjoy the views – the choice is yours.

AdventureDome at Circus Circus

How could the kids not be enthralled in this, the world’s largest indoor theme park, complete with the dramatic Canyon Blaster roller coaster that propels you round at 55 mph! If that seems a bit too exciting, you could try the bumper cars, arcade and circus acts on offer.

Manhattan Express Roller coaster

Kids over 54 inches in height can enjoy this white knuckle ride that swoops and dives around and through the hotel. With speeds up to 67 mph, simulated barrel rolls, a heartline twist, stops and sudden starts, you can experience negative Gs and get a taste of what it might be like to be a fighter pilot. This is certainly not to be tried by the faint-hearted!

Cinema Ride at Caesar’s Palace

This ride offers the most technologically advanced 3D simulators available so you will feel that you really are at the heart of the action. Beware of motion sickness as you and the kids barrel through imaginary landscapes, but get ready for adventure as you feel like you are actually there! Take a trip without ever leaving Caesar’s Palace!

Desperado, Primm, Nevada

This roller coaster, situated around 40 miles from Las Vegas on the California border may be worth a visit if you are a roller coaster fiend. It is one of the tallest and fastest roller coasters in the country, with a maximum speed of about 90 mph! Buffalo Bill gives ‘Little Wrangler’ Passes to children 4 inches and under.

Lion Habitat at MGM Grand

This Lion Habitat was opened in 1999 and has enchanted many visitors since with its area of habitat where lions can be seen and photographed freely. In case you are worried about these poor creatures, rest assured that the lions you see up close will only remain here for a maximum of six hours before they are taken back to their spacious home on an 8 1/2 acre ranch outside the city. Appearing at the MGM Grand is just their day job.

Siegfried & Roy’s Tiger Habitat at the Mirage

Siegfried and Roy’s famous white tigers are living in the lap of luxury in their multimillion dollar habitat at the Mirage. Kids will enjoy sneaking a peek at these majestic and beautiful animals. Lions and leopards can also be seen here, in this reserve conceived by Siegfried and Roy to draw attention to the plight of endangered animals. This natural habitat is also a pleasant and leafy place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the Strip for a while.

Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage

As well as land animals, the Mirage also plays host to a family of bottle nose dolphins from the Atlantic Ocean. The display is designed to provide a good habitat for them as well as an entertainment and educational resource for the public. Anyone over 13 can sign up to be a ‘Trainer for a Day’ to learn more about these intelligent and fascinating creatures.

The Las Vegas Zoo

Fun for all ages, the Las Vegas Zoological and Botanic Gardens cover a 3 acre site near the Strip. Here one can see a range of fascinating birds, animals and plants. From here, families can also take full or half day Eco-Tours by Jeep out into the desert to experience its unique ecosystem up close.

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay

The Sharks at Mandalay Bay are part of a multimedia experience designed to immerse visitors in the world of these sharp-toothed predators of the deep. Shark Reef is one of the largest displays of sharks and other sea predators in North America. Kids and adults alike are bound to be thrilled by the underwater temple and pirate ship displays and by the more than 1,200 species of underwater creatures that are on display.

Hershey’s Chocolate World at New York New York

The place to get all your chocolatey treats – Hershey’s World is a magical wonderland for chocolate lovers. Keep a tight reign on the kids though – this place can be a little on the pricey side so make sure you don’t let them run too wild or you might have a nasty shock when you do finally get them to the cash register!

Ethel M. Chocolate Factory Tour

You can tour this chocolate factory free of charge and is situated just fifteen minutes or so from the Strip. Kids and grown ups will be fascinated by the pipes and conveyor belts which help to make the finished products. Kids will be amazed by huge tanks holding between 20,000 and 35,000 gallons of pure chocolate! There is also a tranquil cactus garden to view, and of course you can sample the finished product from the factory shop.

M&Ms World

Lots of M&M themed full and kookiness here, and there are flavors to try here that are not available at any other locations. There are four floors of M&M fun to explore in this large store. There is even a station where you can customize M&Ms with your own message. The bright colors, cheerful music and chocolate related memorabilia will entertain the kids for ages, and can make you feel like you have stumbled into a weird chocolatey dream.

Serendipity 3 – Legendary ice-cream parlour

The kids will love trying a frozen hot chocolate here, or one of the other delicious treats on offer. Everyone can enjoy the nostalgic setting of a good old-fashioned ice-cream parlour and this is one of the most famous and best. You can use your imaginations and come up with your own ice-cream sundae concoctions, or if you are feeling extremely wealthy, why not sample the most opulent sundae in the world – the Golden Opulence Sundae is covered with 23 karat edible gold leaf.

Unhealthy Treats at Fremont Street:

While you are checking out the Fremont Street Experience, kids will love being treated to some of the unhealthy offerings of the area, including pizza slices and for the unhealthiest and most enticing treat of all, deep-fried oreos. You will need to do some activities to work off some of those calories, but the kids will no doubt love you for ever. Just don’t let them go on a roller coaster after eating all that unhealthy grub!

Indoors Skydiving Experience

This is one of the highest rated experiences for kids in the whole city. Experience what it feels like to be weightless in this gravity defying wind tunnel and you can experience what it is like to go skydiving without even having to go outdoors. Open Gym or Circ-nastics at Trapeze Las Vegas

To reach for the sky and try out something a little bit different, why not take the kids to Trapeze Las Vegas, where there is a daily open gym for those aged 13 and over, or for the little ones, aged 6-12, why not drop in and try a level one Circ-nastics session which costs $35. Maybe you will have a future circus performer (or a little monkey) on your hands.

Zipline, Slotzilla, Fremont Street:

This zipline at Slotzilla on Fremont Street will thrill you and the kids as you whiz down the wire over the busy street below. Get an adrenaline boost as you zip quickly along through the Vegas skies. Big kids of all ages will love this attraction.

Helicopter Rides

For the ultimate family bonding experience, why not take a helicopter ride together? From rides over the city, to desert trips, to excursions that go as far as the Grand Canyon for the adventure of a lifetime, helicopter rides can be that special thing that makes your vacation the best one ever. Las Vegas Mini Grand Prix:

This seven acre park is just minutes from the strip and offers racing fun for all ages. Kids can try Go Karts and Kiddie Karts, while adults may enjoy the Adult Gran Prix and Oval, high banked kart tracks. There are also rides and other attractions when you have had your fill of the four race tracks, and you can grab a meal afterwards at the restaurant.

Nellis Dunes Buggy Adventure

Take the whole family on a dune buggy adventure at the Nellis Dunes. Exploring the dunes you can race or trundle as you wish, making the most of this natural playground. Drive up to look-out points and along dry river beds and have a proper adventure beneath the hot desert sun.

You may be surprised that just 35 miles outside city limits you can ski – yes, ski. Mount Charleston is a stop for outward bound winter adventure and can be the perfect place for an active excursion for the whole family.

Black Canyon

Boat rides on Black Canyon can be relaxing or active as you wish. Whether you are after a sedate motor boat ride or a wild white water rafting expedition, whether you take it easy, or get some exercise kayaking or rowing, Black Water Canyon is easy to reach from Las Vegas, and going there will give you access to some amazing waterway scenery.

Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon can be explored by car (rented from Las Vegas) or on foot or by bike. Its amazing rock formations, flora and fauna give a unique natural habitat which is amazing for the whole family to explore. This is also a good spot to try rock climbing, with opportunities to suit complete beginners of all ages as well as more experienced climbers.

Eldorado Canyon

Here, you can take the children down disused gold mines to show them about the history of gold mining. This is a location that will make you feel that any second some dwarves or goblins will come rushing round a corner. The kids will love delving into this mysterious underground world.

Grand Canyon

Though it is quite a way from Las Vegas, you can get to the Grand Canyon on a bus tour, by hiring a car, or by helicopter or plane ride, and since it is one of the true wonders of the world, it would be a shame to be so close, relatively speaking, and not come for at least a quick look at this majestic river-carved work of natural art.
